Hi Arun,
In addition to what Rob mentioned, the sub turret is a direct copy of the Tamiya Lee with the armoured visor flap still in place, this flap should be removed.
Also is it a rather massive lump of resin, I 'hollowed it out' (shortening my life expectancy seriously during this attempt, I guess ;-)), to open up the drivers hatch and engine deck intake. It looked better, but the hull length problems still need to be adressed if you want it to 'look right'.
If you use the Tamiya Lee/Grant lower hull and running gear, don't forget to replace the bogie wheels with correct 5 spoked items, the kit parts are 6 spoked.
If you use another lower hull, be it Academy Lee/Grant or some Sherman tub, you certainly have to lengthen the upper hull or there is not enough space for either the pepperpot exhausts (early) or the airfilters (mid/late) on the rear hull plate.
Contours on the rear hull/engine deck area are off.
A lot of details is missing, like the persicopes above the drivers position and on the turret.
The PE is rather simplified and crude, I couldn't get the fenders to fit, gave up on them and scratched them from plastic plate.
Allthough I have done a lot of work on this kit, I finally gave up. Every 'solution' makes a new problem acute.
I say, build it as it is, and learn to live with its faults. Or sell it to a collector, and buy one of Rob's offerings instead.
A late Ram can be converted from the OP kit. An earlier vehicle can be made with some extra work, ie. reworking the left front hull to the form needed for the sub turret. The latter may seem a lot of work, but compared with repairing the Verlinden kit I guess it is less work. Use a Academy Lee kit, (lower hull, exhausts and sub turret) and use the Formations M3 Bogie Quick fix set. If you don't sell the Verlinden kit, some details like the side doors, episcopes, etc can be 'saved' from the kit.
An alternative would be to bide your time, I understand that Rob is thinking on doing a Ram gun tank kit in due time.
Hope this helps and that I didn't put you off a project you looked forward to to do. If so, sorry!
Cheers,
Alex |
