Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

I have the same kit and the zimmerit mantlet includes the plug. You do not need to use the plug. Just use the ring (the instructions does not say it though). I compared both the zimmerit mantlet with ring against the non-zimmerit mantket with plug and ring and did not find any noticeable difference in the lengths.

In addition to adding zimmerit (#6302) DML made a number of mistakes that they had gotten right in the previous non-zimmerit version #6312.

These are:
1. The overdone bulge on the right side of the turret
2. The roof blade sight is incorrectly placed on the right side.
3. The rear escape hatch armor and hatch are both noticeably undersized and crucially missing the six prominent attachment bolts.
4. The cupola was bolted to the turret and should not have the weld bead.

Luckily, these errors can be fixed by:
1. Sand down the bulge and rescribe the zimmerit
2. Cut off the blade sight and reposition on the left side, just in front of the lifting hook.
3. I used the included non zimmerit parts (H-11 and H-12) and added zimmerit from putty
4. Sand down and remove the weld bead.
