Oddly enough, fading occurs on all military hardware, no matter how well it's maintained. Also, even though we pay $600 for a screwdriver, all parts are subject to replacement. What I would recommend, is using pastel chalks. You can use black and grey chalks. They mix very well, and are very forgiving. Use a flat paintbrush, trim the bristles short, and apply the chalk however you'd like, You can do it to show airflow over a wing, or you can fade an entire panel, to show that others are newer or older. If it doesn't seem to be to your liking, simply wipe it off with a damp cloth and try again. Once you are satisfied, A simple dulcote overspray will keep your efforts in place.
