I'd start with a Paasche H single action. Its a workhorse and very
reliable. For a single action I don't believe anything can beat it.
Tough as nails and relatively inexpensive to boot. You won't be able to
get the finest detail possible out of it, but you won't be doing that
for a while anyway. It takes time to learn how to do the basics of a
single or two colour scheme right before you get anywhere near the level
that will require a good double action.
