Polly Scale flat, for the deadest flat, hands down. Dullcote is fine, in thin coats(see below)
The general rule-of-thumb for layers of paint is:
Lacquer
Acrylic
Enamel
Then why is Dullcote(a lacquer) so popular? Because it is a very mild based lacquer formulated for use with hobby paints. But if applied too heavily you can have problems - especially when applying over dry-transfer markings - and it can eventually yellow and flake off. Because or the mild nature of most hobby paints it's really not that important to follow this guide when applying coats of paint, however, one thing to remember is that enamels tend to take longer to cure than lacquers and acryllics and they form an outer film that traps solvents inside the layer of paint. That can lead to problems if other types of paint, even hobby paints, are applied over enamels as the enamel layer will expand and contract different amounts than the other paints. Solution:let enamels cure for several days before overcoating with a dissimmilar paint. |
