I'd have to agree with Christophe, using a stock colour is best so you can repeat it every time. My favourite is Humbrol Matt 29 enamel dry brushed with a big soft brush kept for that use only. Dust is Humbrol 119 put on the same way
To give my mud a bit of texture I mix a little Woodland Scenics 'earth' mix into it with a little water and iso alcohol for a slight sheen.
