Hi Eric,

I have found with this technique that you have to have a pretty significant color variation or your washes and clear coats can somewhat cancel out the effect that you are looking for. If the effect is very subtle to begin with, you will probably lose it with your clear coat.

It took me a few models to get the hang of it, so I would just keep experimenting. I must admit, the first model where I thought I "got it right", the color variation was quite stark. I really thought I had gone too far. Then I threw on my first filter, and it turned out beautifully.

Not really the answer you were probably looking for though. I am not sure if there is a way that you can "refresh" those panel lines after they have been covered.
