Hi,

Filters and glaze can be understood of being the same thing, no problem with that.

I'll try to explain teh difference between the words, or rather their typical use within the modelling society. For example when people use "glaze technique" in figurine painting, they are making the paint translusent, like in painting a beard with green color. On the other hand when you use a filter, you try to change the tone of the colour or tie colour together. For example one could tone down a dark green by using a very thin filter of naples yellow oil colour and repeat the treatment several times and end up having a medium green tone. In this respect filter is much closer to wash than to glaze, but a separate word waas needed because wash had already been a synonyme of making a shadow to panel lines etc. with a dark, thin colour.

The differences are very subttle and as already explained above, the word filter was used because of it's analogy to camera lenses. Hope this did not confuse things more;-)

Regards,

Jari
