Hi Ed,
You may be kind of "overthinking" on this one.
There's usually not much call for exotic solutions to get paint stick or
work properly. As far as the mix alcohol and water, the bottle I've been
using is 70%, used right from the bottle with no further mixing. Works
fine.
As for washer fluid, it IS detergent. But, I don't think a little soap
in the paint causes any problems. I don't use it myself but have seen it
mentioned here on TL more than once.
Two things I can think of to get your paints to "bite." Wash the kit
before AND after assembly with warm soapy water and/or alcohol. Then,
give the kit a medium dusting of primer. Some guys like black to
"pre-shade" while others like a medium grey.
Tony Greenland advocates automotive primer right out of the can. Watch
out though, as some of these will leave behind a texture that would make
Mr Gunze envious! This is either from age or poor quality product. If
you buy some, don't skimp and be sure to try it out on the bottom of the
kit or at least an old kit.
Hope this helps...
