| I use lacquer thinner exclusively with my oil based model paint. Thinning is relative- you have to use an airbrush -(a normal brush will not work with lacquer thinned paint, melts plastic) so the viscosity needs to be conducive to atomization of the paint. Try it out and you'll get it eventually. Lacquer thinner is highly poisonous and you need a respirator for organic vapours( you should use one any ways - even with the acrylics, (lovely microscopic balls floating around that lodge in your lung cilia). I use the lacquer thinner to clear my air brush as well(but don't soak it!) with pipe cleaners and Q-tips. My paints usually can be handled after a day or so - unless its flat black or something- which dries faster. You should let your paint jobs set up over night in any case as a rule of thumb- just to give it time to cure somewhat - specially if you are going to handle the parts that were painted. Also different pigments just have longer or shorter drying rates. Japan dryers are not really neccassary for model paints plus if not used properly can cause more problems than they solve. Patience is the key to good modeling- I hope to learn not to rush myself one day... |
