If you have airbrushing for 9 years is this the first time this has happened? If so, think about what technique you have changed. Sounds like too much thinner or the paint/thinner was not mixed allowing some paint to be too "watery" or there was excessive moisture in the air the day this happened. If you do not have a moisture trap between the compressor and air bush, moisture will condense into water and when there is enough water collected in the hose, it will move to the air brush and suddenly this water comes out of the gun and dilute the paint.

That's why I still use petroleum based paints!
