I use the Badger 100 AB as well. I also use a Badger 480 Silent compressor (the one with all the bells and whistles as you called it). The advantage to that type of compressor is that it has a holding tank which maintains a steady line pressure i.e. no pulsing, and it also has an air regulator which is a must when you need to adjust the air pressure down to 10-25 psi for detail painting like you are looking to achieve.
