Paul, I agree with you but complete metal finished tracks just won't look
that good on a model
To defend my "rust" idea how about this:
The ARV is situated in Normandy, just a couple of days after the landings.
The tank has had some excersises on beaches, did a few landings, and finally
had to ride trough the water to the French coast.
You know what sea water can do to bare metal, in just hours....
And also the result of the black and grey washes gives you a dirty grey
brown base color on the trackswich looks realistic to me.
