i've tried the method in the Feb 2003 issue of finescale modeler.
It gave good results to my tamiya M4A3 105 how.
just mix a teaspoon or more of pastel powder with water till it feels like paint,apply it with a brush, let it dry, scrape off points to wear
the tank's markings and paint is showin' with a stiff brush, seal it with acryl flat. then followed by weathering.
