You might try base coating the model with the Tamiya sprays, then airbrushing on the second and third colors. Alternately, drain the paint from cans and airbrush the laquer on the model.

I painted the Tamiya R/C Tiger I with acrylics over Tamiya spray grey primer with great results. I built a Pershing for a customer and painted it with Tamiya spray cans (solid color overall) and the results were super. The Tamiya sprays definitely go on well. After painting the tank with the cans, I just went back wtih Tamiya acrylics for a little shading and fading.
