Very Carefully!

I tried it once with some flat black for the same reason (more control with an airbrush) and got more paint on me and the surroundings than in the (*deleted*) bottle.

Looking back, I'd bore the spray tip a bit to fit a thin brass or plastic tube into it as an extended nozzle (like the plastic ones they supply with many spray lubes like WD40) and then a lid to cover the airbrush bottle with a hole in it just large enough to fit the brass tube. Put tube in hole, and spray, stopping occassionally to shake the can up. CA'ing the tube in the spray head might help some.

If there is a better way, I'd like to know... as I sometimes run out of propellant before I run out of paint.
