| Not sure if this helps, but the same dirt that looks tan or light brown on my wife's Metallic Bronze car looks greyish black on my white one. I am currently weathering a panzer grey SdKfz 222, (base color Tamiya XF 63) and started with a couple of thin washes of Tamiya RLM Grey for depth, and will progress to browns and tans, finishing up with buff. I generally use many VERY thin washes- 3-5 of each color, and let the tones build up gradually. (If you can see the color in the wash, add water...) As the wash slowly dries it leaves paint in random patterns, just as rain drying on a real vehicle would. Using multiple shades adds depth, and a little drybrushing at the end finishes it off. I should admit that I subscribe to "used, not abused" school of weathering. (The other benefit of this method is that it takes a small amount of skill and a large amount of patience, which exactly matches my modelling abilities!) |
