Hmmm, I'm not going for the Silver look, although I agree that often tracks
are polished during use.
On the other hand I could show you dozens of pictures (but no doubt you will
have your own) where the tracks look a dirty grey brown with polished
contact surfaces.
The grey brown is no rust but dried dirt, clay and what ever comes in
between the spaces in the track pattern.
A great sample of what I mean is the Sherman tank on the cover of the
Concord book, where a late type of Sherman is running over a dirt road
somewhere in Germany
