Hi Amr,
Most of the time, I glue everything together before painting. In most of cases, there are serveal sopts that are hard to paint, including the tracks hidden between the wheels. I have seen a Japanese modeller airbrushed the track links on sprue and then glued them onto the model which was already painted. The potential problems I could think of is glue does not go down to the plastic part and track links do not stay together tightly.
Depends on your definetion of 'realistic', the answer of 'how to' for a realistic look-like would be different. The best way to get your own definitions is observing the construction vehicles in all kind of conditions..
Hope this is of some help.
