Works for me. For weapons, I rub graphite over a blue-black base. On
tracks, I drybrush steel over a weathered blue-black base because I want
to exaggerate the wear effects a bit. They tend to get lost after I've
attached the tank to the base and then dust-weathed the tank, treads and
groundwork; this way steel color will still penetrate the chalk dust.
One place where I would not recommend the use of graphite is in
discoloring muzzle brakes. I saw this on a Tiger I model and it looked
like the tank's crew must have wet-sanded down the baffles prior to
repainting at the depot! By all mean, use only black or dark gray here.
