This is quite an interesting thread. I am curious about everyone's
opinion. I think that's one of the best things about the
news/discussion groups. It's like a club without the politics.

I have used graphite for weapons and for track wear. The graphite gives
a shiny effect without drawing your eye to the shine like metallic paint
does. Using graphite on weapons highlights the wear points quite
realistically as you have pointed out. Over olive green paint it also
simulates the parkerizing finish on WW2 American weapons, which is
actually glossy olive drab, pretty well. This is a good case of scale
effect. If a real M1 were scaled down it wouldn't look right because
the metal parts would be bright green. The finish is quite unlike
modern parkerizing which looks like frosty graphite.

On muzzle brakes, the blackening should be mostly powder fowling or soot
so does anyone airbrush flat black for this effect?
