Hi,
M3 Grants in North Africa recieved a number of schemes during their service. Initially delivered in US Olive Drab they were given a coat of BSC361 Light Stone (yellow).
Some (of 8th RTR I believe) only had Light stone over the lower half of the hull and turret with OD remaining over the top third. The Light stone was then further disrupted with sprayed patches of purple brown. Steve Zaloga has modelled an example in this scheme in the gallery at Missing Lynx.com.
Further examples were painted overall Light stone with a wavey chocolate brown pattern on top. This brown was then edged in black and white. Bovingtons M3 Grant is pattern in this pattern. If you go over to the Tank Museum website @ www.tankmuseum.co.uk there may be a pic. Otherwise try Google.
At the time of El Alamein Grants were resprayed Desert Pink with a wavey Dark Olive Green camo and white undershading on the lower hull and 75mm.
Take your pick, like all Brit/Commomwealth armour in the desert they were all rather colourful! |
