I found them to be inferior for painting miniatures, but they are probably OK for weathering/drybrushing.

Don't use turps for anything. It's too hot and lifts paint as Harry mentioned. Use "Turpenoid" for thinning oils. It's a very refined white spirits and I have never found it a problem as to lifting the undercoat when I used it in washes and shadows.
