Jay,
I think I would be one of those who prefers to start with a matte colour and get the final finish with my choice of varnish. My favourite paint was always the old Humbrol which with careful handling dried to somthing like a primer finish. Horrible for picking up grease or accepting a decal without prior surface preperation of course, but excellent for the application of pastel weathing and water based washes.

P.S Excellent Centaur article in MIS by the way. Just out of curiosity, do you know what the perforated rectangular plate on the glacis is? |
