Hi Jay,
I stocked up on the complete range of WWII and Soviet XtraColor aircraft paints many years ago as I did not believe that paint this good would last long on shelves.
Well, after a looooooong hiatus, I see a lot of the paints have gelled. I gues I need to pay a visit to Hannats ;-)
As for armour, semi-gloss would be best since it is the most versatile and realistic. A slight rub brings on a shine for decals but flat matte is only a spray away.
THe aircraft colors I used (over a decade ago) were a bit thick (for coverage) and took a bit to dry. Perhaps I was a bit overanxious? On several occasions, I left a fingerprint on a surface that was not ready yet (the gloss looked wet all the time). I then learned to spray a scrap and test that piece before handling the aircraft.
I never even knew that acrylics came out!
