Hi....thanks....you can DO very good hedge rows as well if you tease it out a lot then paint and add some 'herp' leaf :)...now now :)

In relation to the 'just scape it' question...I would like to say now...I use all methods...

Do Not use the scape method

1
Ground work
I use Weathering Powders here because of ease of use and controlled colour....Sands, earths and Muds all are 'finnished' with powder mixes to get scale (by way of the tiny grain size) to the ground

2
Dusting and dirts
This is because what I need is a constant and controlled mix of colour and the finnest grain size...if you scrape and mix you can get large smears when dusting...if you dust ,,you dust on the same colour as you have made the ground with...and it is easy to darken or lighten the mix as you go..

Do use the scrape method

1
Spot colours of strong tones and colour 'high spots' such as heavey rust...Good strong primary colours and a range of similar colours in pencil form for 'spotting' and scratches is a must...they also last ages

2
Track Weathering
When mixed with humbrol some random 'smears' of primary colours prove to create a good effect

Hope it helps...but to conclude basicly...For me

with the ranges of colours out there and the cost ..but mostly the TIME...I just cannot be bothered to peel and scrape pencils all night :) and remember the easy colour mixes and ease of direct application for ground work

(The KV in the pic...all pigments from the ground to the dust on it)

For me they are just another thing in the model world to make things easier and better..BUT...like most things..NOT every thing can be done with them, there again I would bite your hand off if you tried to take them :)
