Hi there,
Tamiya acrylics are not very good for brush painting but are very good for airbrushing as long as you add a little water. Enamel paints like Humbrol are good for brush painting but are not for airbrushing (too messy)
I mainly do armour models and i always use my airbrush. I dont prime the models but sometimes use black or white as an undercoat to lighten the final colour.
As varnishing goes, I use Johnsons Klear floor varnish. Thats pretty glossy but can be dulled down by matt varnish. Do you live in the UK? Johnsons Klear is avalible in the UK but im not sure about anywhere else.
Hope this helps
