I would look at using your local arts shop for brushes, buy the best you can afford and get brushes that are suitable for the job.If you are going to prime your models then a relatively cheap paint is car primer I use grey,you get a decent sized spray can for not alot of money from your local car spare shop.

Acrylics are difficult to paint on but I have found that cutting them with Wind Screen cleaner works better then using water, but you will still need a couple of coats to get a decent fininsh.

Airbrushes are a great tool, but if possible try to borrow one to try out before you invest and decide what type you prefer dual or single action. I have a second hand badger and it is a good all round single action airbrush.

What ever method of painting you decide to use keep on practicing, real vehicles are fininshed in a miriade of fashion.
