Hi!
First of all You have to decide what kind of look You'd like to achieve. The best general colour for raw metal is Humbrol #53. It doesn't shine and it is perfect for tracks. Applying a several washes of burnt sienna, red and yellow will succeed in more realistic look.
The washes made of Hubroll gives a sandy and rusty look. It's enough that You add jus a liitle pastels then or do a liitle drybrushing over high points.
For the muddy look I usually use Hubrol 29,72 and 173. The Humbrol 72 effect You can see on my model of SNAR in the gallery. It is enough that you sparay a liitle mist over the tracks and wheels. A lot of people use blak matt as a primer for tracks and then follow different lawyers of dirty colours.
In case of heavy mud there is no steel colour visible on the tracks. When You apply a light mud You can drybrush some part of tracks with different colors of steel and burnt iron but not to much!
You can replace Humbrol for Tamiya Acrylics but Humbrol gives a better results. Humbrol's matt enamels are unnatural for tank surface but perfect for mud and dirt.
Cheers,
Lu |
