I posted a question not long ago on a modeling site about chipped paint (I didn't believe it was an accurate portrayal of WW II armor)and at least 80% of the people said chipped paint was accurate and correct, one guy posted pictures of a real tank with chipped paint and was vehement that it was a proper way to weather tanks.
I could never understand how this effect is so popular as I've never seen color photos of WW II tanks and vehicles with this on them, and relying on black/white photos is even more un-reliable.
I have no issue with people using this effect but if I choose not to do it on my models, will people look at my model as less accurate? Some people will never be convinced this effect is only asthetic.
