 Subject:  Weathering with ChalksList thread.

Can someone provide some insight into using chalks for weathering? I've read of their use in Shep Paine's book and also in Tony Greenlands Panzer Modelling. Neither of these describe how to use them. Some questions:

How are chalks applied?
What keeps the chalk dust in place?
Recommended colors?

Thanks in advance.
Steve
