| Subject: | Rusty Tow Cables - bending the truth ? | |

I am painting the steel cable on a winch of an in service ww2 vehicle. All my research of military doctrine tells me that it was a point of discipline that all cables be kept in good condition and well greased, with any degredation or rust or damage causing the cable to be removed repaired or changed.
Why do so many modellers feel the need to add a rust or umber colours to what is in reality an item that ought have none? Is this a case of where it actually looks better to weather the cable with some rusty or dark umber colours, than to be true to life ?
what is others opinion on bending this rule ?
