| Subject: | Acrylic face off - Vallejo vs. Tamiya | |
| Date: | Jun 13, 2005 |
| From: | Owen Dawson | |
I want to get back into modelling, but since I left the seen a few years back vallejo acrylics seem to have become all the rage. I have a few questions concerning these paints:
1. I have seen a number of mixed responses to vallejo acrylics on various modelling forums. Some users rave about them, whilst others feel that they are a nightmare to thin and use with an airbrush. What are your opinions on this matter?
2. Before hanging up my paint brush I used to paint uniforms with enamels, but more and more modellers now seem to use acrylics, and in particular vallejo. Are vallejo all they're cracked up to be in this respect, and are the techniques used for painting with enamel and acrylics similar?
3. I have a few tamiya acrylic paints left. However I've heard that these can't be mixed with vallejo as tamiya's paints are alcohol based, is this true?
4. Finally, if vallejo and tamiya can't be mixed, would you recommend that I take the plunge and start using vallejo in favour of tamiya? How do the two products compare, or is there not much difference?
Thanks in advance, and I hope that the list of questions isn't too long.
