I use both paints, Tamiya is definetely more airbrush friendly, while Vallejo covers much better with a paint brush. Vallejo offers a retarder with slows drying drying time-i.e. blending with acrylic!
I've never had an issue mixing the two for airbrushing, I've successfully mixed OD and several earthtones from Tans to Ochres to Browns. I think using denatured alcohol as a thinning agent is the key.
