From what I know, seeing as how the Pz III Ns were tp be like support for the Tigers in Africa, many were painted like the Tigers and had some of the same unit markings, like the little Tiger for the 501 would be on the turret of Pz III Ns...Some had color schemes similar to the Tigers...even some with that kind of olive green look, if you know what I mean. I have some great pictures in various books, and I'll try to scan them some how (the way my scanner is, I'd have to rip out the pictures to scan them)...
As far as like the primer, I would believe that it would brown... being that some Pz III Ns were dark yellow/mustard or like that olive green kind of color... I can't recall ever seeing a Pz III N that was dark gray...especially around the time in which they were deployed to Africa and seeing as how pz III production pretty much stoped in 1943 and that the German High Command basically called for a change in the color of the vehicles from the early dark gray to dark yellow.
Hope this helps out. Again, I'll try to see about scanning some pictures to help out.
You may also want to try an Image search for it...I know that many pictures from various reputable sources are available.
