'sPz.Abt. 504 used Ausf J's rather than Ausf N's, so I think you're only looking at vehicles issued to sPz.Abt.501.'...yeah, because he said DAK lol :-P
you are right about some being dark gray. I totaly forgot about that. I'm just so used to seeing pretty much all of the late Pz IIIs as being like dark yellow/red brown (primer (pz colors as some Ls like that))/pea green (at least that's what "Tanks in Detail:Pz III" says color lol...I have that concord book too and it says '...overall dark yellow with parts of the original dark gray showing.'
I think that overall, brown could work, dark yellow/mustard could work and maybe pea green...its just real hard to tell by some pictures at all unless otherwise noted in the book, but even then, again, there's not a lot to really go by "exactly"...
I also have Restayn's 'Tiger I on the Western Front' and it's Pz III N pictures are what I mean, as does Mr W....some had like a camo scheme going on, but I'm not sure. I can only find one reference to that showing the rear of the vehicle and it looks like overall dark yellow with gray or brown underneath...I guess really...GO NUTS! its your model....
