People use 'DAK' fairly loosely. I'm aware that it actually only comprised some of the units that fought in North Africa.

As you say, most photos of Ausf N's show them in dark yellow, frequently with one or more camouflage colours - usually in Russia (although there are some photos of them in France prior to the Normandy campaign).

You're right about the difficulty in distinguishing the brown from the 'pea green' (still a disputed colour, I believe) in photographs. But I think one is on fairly safe ground identifying Ausf N's in Tunisia as being brown; if I recall correctly, the Ausf N's arrived after the first batch of Tigers, by which time they weren't using the 'pea green'. But I don't think anyone can be too dogmantic about the issue.
