Hello Franklin!
It seems a lot like a T-34/76 captured and used by the Finnish Armed Forces during the Continuation War (1941-44). Unfortunately your picture is a little bit too small, thus making it difficult to say what the text tells about the tank. As we all know, Finland was an ally to Germany at the time. The turret swastika looks like a Finnish swastika very much indeed. The German one was different (its form and angle)and they rarely used it as a tank marking. The well known Balkenkreutz was used most commonly. Usually captured tanks were marked with very large national markings but not always. Sometimes captured equipment was put in use very quickly against their former owners. This meant they were not repainted except the markings. All tanks captured and used by the Finnish Army were first sent to workshops to go through some maintenance and repainting. The tank in the picture could a Finnish one also according to the camouflage painting. It doesn't look like a German painting.
I suppose all the tanks captured and used by the Germans and if they were repainted and/or rebuilt somehow, it was done very closely to the common German regulations. So the vehicles could be painted, for example, dunkelgelb (dark yellow).
It would be great to see what text actually says concerning this tank.
Cheers,
Mikko |
