Ambush schemes were generally factory applied in hard edge form, and there was a definite pattern to the dots. From memory it was yellow dots on green and brown suurfaces, green dots on yellow surfaces when near green areas, and brown likewise.

However, if you're not trying to model a specific vehicle, it's not hard to imagine that the factory scheme could have been copied in the field, in which case it would have been soft edged. Have fun!
