i met jens popp, the maker of jps color last year on the Mainz Model show and talked to him about that topic. he told me he talked to a friend about the africa tigers when the friends father came to the discussion. the father said he was one of the men who had to repaint the tigers into a green tone because the tunesian countryside they where was not desertish but more greenish (vegetation). hope you understand what i mean.
i asked him if there is any proof, but at that time there wasnīt.

now 60 years after the war i have heard of to types of veterans. those with a great phantasy that talk a lot about the war and their heroic deeds (there are not too many of them) , and those quiet, modest man that do not talk much about the war..doing this only when they are asked and donīt like to do it.

i can not say to wich of the two groups the guy belongs, but what he said is possible at least. i read, that german troops in africa did not hesitate to use everything they could (vehicles, fuel, paint, weaponry... no matter who the former owner was). and the use of paint provided by italian air force makes sense.

So maybe this interisting thing could be verified.

Frank
