hi david!
i must say that migs pigments are a must when weathering afvs:D i've found it easier to make perfect rust and soot blending different mig pigments than using traditional pastels... i think that the migs are more true when it comes to colour. of course that depends on what pastels you have, and i have the classic greys and burnt umbers types.. you can use pigments in a bunch of ways. you can drybrush them on, mix them with alcohol, turpentine or plaster or whatever... if you buy a little set of five tubs you get an instruction sheet that should clear things up for you.. also it's advisable to seal the pigments in with some matt varnish.
