Couldn't agree more - I've got the dullcote in spray cans for stuff like sealing the surface of plaster buildings for dioramas (at which it excels, as long as you're willing to use a *lot* of cans) but the final finish is definitely eggshell, while the stuff in the "square" bottles" with the red and black label, properly thinned with lacquer thinner (I keep to the Testors stuff in the little bottles that matches the Dullcote for this) and thoroughly mixed is flat, utterly flat. None more flat. I feel that I'm running low on the stuff if I'm down to less than three or four unused bottles, it's that essential.

Actually, it's too flat sometimes - I'll occasionally put just a few drops of Testors Gloss Cote in to add a very, very slight sheen that looks more natural on "clean" stuff. Even then you have to be real careful - more than a tiny amount of the gloss cote and you've turned it into a satin finish. Getting the flat, but not utterly flat, finish takes experimentation.
