| Subject: | Slate Grey + Light Stone = Bull | |
| Date: | Oct 25, 2005 |

Slate Grey was always used together with Silver Grey as a disruptive colour over light stone and never on its own in 1941. The so-called two-colour scheme of Slate Grey over Light Stone is due to dust and/or film type. There are plenty of photos of 8th Hussars out there in the same pattern clearly showing three colours.
Official Orders indicate that the Caunter scheme of 3 colours was not cancelled until late Nov/early Dec. 1941; there-after no disruptive pattern was officially authorised, most tanks were without a disruptive pattern in early 1942.
There has been some talk that somehow one can determine the colours from B/W photos and that the tone matches Slate Grey etc, etc. Again total bull. The only two-colour schemes in use in 1941 in the desert were those for Sudan of Light Stone + Light Purple Brown and that for Palestine of Light Stone + Dark Green. Both were uncommon in Egypt where most of the fighting took place. |
