Very interesting discussion.

The color shots I'm refering to are old Agfa 16mm color film clips of the eastern front. Of course I realize that this film, as all film sees things a bit differently than the human eye. In addition being a transparency film it suffers from high contrast and a non-neutral color spectrum. Nonetheless the Panzers on the film look almost black. I did notice though that later on in months and years you do start to see Panzers that have lightened up substantially, almost to a dusty middle grey.

I have seen great examples of models that use a much darker grey like Martin Webster's Tiger I prototype seen on track-link and a much lighter grey like the Iwata add in Tamiya Magazine featuring Andrew Dextras's Tiger I which is a lighter blue gray.

I like the way both look and hypothetically both could be close to correct.

I think my tiger is probably too light and too blue though.
