Hey Tim,
Vallejo has an excellent alchol-based metallic selection. I've use their bright gold for polished brass. It is best if airbrushed, but I've used it with a regular brush on small items. It covers extremely well and doesn't dull over time. Like all acrylics, though, it doesn't tolerate a lot of handling. The paint will wear off around raised edges if you keep touching it. Maybe a coat of varnish will prevent this. I haven't had a chance to use the varnish yet though -Hurricane Katrina has pretty much put my modelling on a lengthy hiatus for the foreseeable future. Best of luck,
Dave Clarke
