Hey Ken,
I've dealt with the same issues involving enamel thinners. My family always complained of the smell, expecially when air brushing. I never felt a respirator was necessary since I usually limited my spraying to no longer than 20 minutes at a time. But when I would go back out to the garage where I had been happily airbrushing more than an hour before, the smell was still easily detectible. I've since switched to acrylics. Tamiya's are excellent, of course, but the color selection is limited. I absolutely swear by Vallejo. I don't buy the airbrushing variety, because it's given me problems and the regular Vallejo air brushed just fine with a little thinning. They cover perfectly, the color selection is awesome, and you can use the same paints as filters, or hard line camo with a brush. Just spray a varnish cover afterwards, because Vallejo doesn't tolerate extended handling too well. It wears off raised edges if it is touched too much. This is my second post on Vallejo paints today - honestly, no affiliation with the company whatsoever. Just a very satisfied customer.Hope this helped some,
Dave Clarke
