Hello guys,
It always pays to look a bit further afield than "1/35 Scale Only".
SnJ Products, marketing mostly for aircraft models, have a range of Polishing Powders, including brass, gold, alu and steel.
I picked them up at a local aviation modelling store here in The Netherlands but am sure the range is available internationally.
I don't even use any metallic paint as base coat, just plain flat yellow. After the yellow paint is dry, swab a fair amount of the either brass or gold SnJ Polishing Powder on your shells, GENTLY polish them up with either a Q-Tip or a very soft rag and presto, you get an end result that will leave even the most critical viewer pretty much short of words.
Nobody will believe your shells are either plastic or resin; they are exatly the same as -always much more expensive- shells made of real brass.
Take a look at the enclosed pic of the 16Pdr shells in the ready-rack of my AFV Club Achilles.
These are the orignal shells OOTB polished with SnJ
The .50 as well as the breech-block were also treated with SnJ by the way.
Happy modelling,
Jerry |
