You have to prime a model before paint just like you have to apply a gloss coat before decals. I just don't paint kits anymore with out primer.
I have used Tamiya Spray Primer Grey and Plasticote automotive primer, but the best is Gunze Mr. Surfacer 1000, for final primer before painting. I have never had a problem with the Tamiya spray being too heavy. The automotive primer can be applied pretty think and is useful for spot filling.
These are laq. based primers that have a slight bite into the plastic or resin surface. The Gunze product in the jar will need to be thinned for airbrushing. Gunze also makes a spray version which is just as good as the Tamiya spray primer. |
