Grant,
Take a look at this "seasonally appropriate" image. While it doesn't have the white under tha barrel, it does have the white under the differential cover. Note also that the camo is hard edged and that it doesn't extend to the sides of the suspension housings. This last is more interesting than illustrative of a rule as I'm sure the instructions don't say that you must or must not paint the sides of the suspension, but it's interesting how the least possible work has been put into this job.
BTW thanks to the Imperial War Museum for making these images available for modelers.
