Erik,

I took your photo and enhanced it using photoshop. What you need is color and contrast. You will notice in the corner of the eye nosebridge, upper eyelids, under the nose,on the neck under the chin, under the lower lip, the upper lip and laugh lines are all darker. The tip of the nose, spots on the lower lip, tops of cheeks and top of chin all have 'hot spots' of an almost white color to add reflection. The ear, cheeks, nose and lips are a bit more ruddy (red) to bring some color into the face. There is also a 5 o'clock shadow added to to fulcrum/septum (area between nose and upper lip) and along the jaw line. These changes will give your figure more life. If you are using acrylics use Vallejo's glaze medium and distilled water to make the subtle changes. Don't use black on the face.
